Theatre; Just Because is a non-profit independent theatre company operating in Fort McMurray Wood Buffalo since 2014.

Our mission is to create meaningful and impactful performing arts experiences & foster growth within our arts ecosystem.

We envision a thriving and welcoming performing arts scene in Wood Buffalo.

Education Programs

Our award-winning theatre education programs are built on the foundation of creating a strong ensemble from every group we work with.

In essence, an ensemble in theatre represents the idea that every member, regardless of their specific role, plays a crucial part in the success of the production.

We believe that arts education equips students to be strong, collaborative thinkers in all areas of life.

Fort McMurray Fringe Festival

As a recognized member of the Canadian Association of Fringe Festivals, the Fort McMurray Fringe Festival is an un-juried and uncensored theatre and arts festival, where performance slots are available on a first-come, first-served basis—giving every artist a chance to take the stage on their own terms.

At its core, the festival is about nurturing local talent, bringing new works to eager audiences, and celebrating homegrown creativity. Fort McMurray Fringe Festival is where fearless theatre comes to life.

Our team creates opportunities for artists to develop within our local context through programs such as Writers Room, as well as through play readings and artist meet-up events.

Artist Development

Acting Out! One-Act Festival

TJB is proud to serve as the organising committee for the Alberta Drama Festival Association (ADFA) North Zone regional one-act play competition.

The Acting Out! One-Act Festival allows local adult amateur theatre artists to perform, receive adjudication, and compete to represent the North Zone at the Provincial Festival each year.

“Our work is about creating space for artists to take risks, audiences to feel something new, and for Wood Buffalo to see itself reflected onstage in bold and unexpected ways.

— Bailey Yarkie, Artistic Director
